raise和rise都有“上升。“增长”的意思,但是raise是及物动词,后面必须有宾语,就是“某人把某物举起来”。rise是不及物动词,后面不能加宾语,也就是说“某人、某物自己升起来”。在英式英语里,raise只能作动词、不能做名词,rise既可以作动词、也可以作名词。

一、rise的用法

1、rise是不及物动词,不能用于被动结构,常与above, from, to等介词连用。rise偶尔也用作系动词,后接形容词作表语。

2、rise一般不与介词up搭配使用,多单独使用,rise up中up是是多余的`;rise属不及物动词,其过去分词risen可作形容词,表示“已升起的”。

二、raise的用法

1、raise在美式英语中有“饲养,抚养”的意思,如raise cattle(饲养牲口)和raise children(抚养孩子)。相对应的英式英语则是breed cattle和rear children。

2、raise在美式英语中还有“增加”的意思,通常指工资等的上升,如a raise in/of salary。英式英语中习惯用rise或increase去替换该词。
